Mexico (1934- )
Participated CP 1992 Cuevas is a self-taught artist, who draws, makes prints, sculpts and illustrates books. He is one of the principal figures of the generation that broke with the muralist tradition in Mexico and one of the most outstanding artists in the neo-figurative movement. Much of his work portrays human degradation in the worlds of prostitution and despotism. At the Experimental Workshop, Cuevas painted a self-portrait on his models back. The expression of the face is similar to the extravagant caricatures that Cuevas has drawn with such assurance since he was 14. The reading of the work changes with the movements of the models torso, giving the painted face a variety of different expressions. |
